Lesson 4  Exploring Australia's Unique Physical Environment



You will be undertaking a virtual field trip. 
1. Add Google Maps as an App.
2. Visit the following places and screen shot (photograph) various aspects of the landforms and features that you believe make Australia unique:
-Uluru
-The Kimberley
-Lake Ayre
-Murray Darling Basin
-The Nullarbor Plain
-Mount Kosciuszco
-Great Barrier Reef
-Twelve Apostles
3. Visit other famous world sites of your choosing. Use these to compare and contrast the uniqueness of Australia's physical environment. You should create a Venn Diagram before you start writing your 300 word response.

Lesson 3  Australia's Unique Physical Character


You are to go to Google App store and get the "Video Notes" App. You will use this app to annotate a documentary about Australia's unique physical character. 

1. Download "Video Notes" App
2. Cut and paste the following YouTube URL into the Video Notes App: Australia Documentary
3. Students are to write at least 15 notes that describe Australia's unique physical environment. Be as detailed as possible.

You are to imagine that you are an explorer's who has explored and circumnavigated Australia. Using high modality and the language of persuasion, students are to explain why Australia is unique (500 words). 

Include the following details in your response:

1. Australia's latitudinal and longitudinal range
2. Australia's closest neighbours to the N,S,E and W.
3. Australia's size and shape
4. The length of Australia's coastline
5. Australia's internal and external territories
6. Australia's climate
7. Australia's major landforms
8. Australia's major drainage basins
9. Australia's vegetation
10. Australia's flora and fauna

Remember that you should use the above as your evidence when convincing your audience that Australia is unique.

Lesson 1 Australia's Unique Physical Environment



Australia's Unique Physical Environment
Lesson 1

Students are to create a Blog using Blogger. As they complete their class work, they are to post their answers and idea on their blog each lesson. Students are also encouraged to post points of interest, pictures, maps, links and articles on their blog as well.

Students are to enter the name of their blog, their real name and the URL of their blog into the Google Doc that has been shared with you named "Blogger login details."

Activities:

1. Set up a Blog using Blogger.
2. Identify your favourite Australian physical environment. Insert a picture, video and description of this physical environment on your blog.
3. Outline what you think this unit of work will be about.
4. Describe activities that would you like to do in class. Eg group work, filming, research, games, quizzes etc.
5. List what you hope to learn in this unit of work. What sort of things would you like to learn about Australia? What interests you most?
